Glasgow is the largest city in Scotland, and the third largest in the United Kingdom (after London and Birmingham). Glasgow is one of Europe’s most dynamic cultural capitals. Glasgow is home to Scottish Opera, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Scottish Ballet and several world rated theatre companies - and blazes an internationally acclaimed trail in contemporary art, design and music.

In 1990, it was European City of Culture and it is a UNESCO City of Music, with a variety of festivals, events and exhibitions taking place throughout the year.

New developments - such as the breath-taking Riverside Museum by Zaha Hadid - have added a truly modern twist to the city’s landscape.

Glasgow’s three universities - University of Glasgow, University of Strathclyde and Glasgow Caledonian University - are renowned for their world-leading research.
The city is home to great invention, from penicillin to long distance television transmission. It’s also home to Europe’s largest cancer treatment and research centre, and the leading veterinary research facility in the UK.

Glasgow is easy to reach from 3 international airports with direct flights to most major European cities, and 7 North American destinations. There is also a twice daily Emirates flight direct from Dubai.

… and easy to get around
Glasgow is a compact city and easy to navigate on foot. Many hotels and social programme venues are within walking distance of the SEC. There is an excellent public transport system and special discounted travel tickets available for conference delegates.

The rest of Scotland is on Glasgow’s doorstep with lochs, mountains, historic castles and championship golf courses within 30 minutes of the city centre.
