Invitation

The Spanish National Committee on Large Dams (SPANCOLD) is pleased to invite you to participate in the 12th Spanish Conference on Dams to be held at the Palacio de Congresos de Canarias, Alfredo Kraus Auditorium, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria from September 27 to October 01, 2021.

SPANCOLD has been organising these conferences since 1985, having travelled all over Spain during this time. On this occasion, the Cabildo de Gran Canaria and its Island Water Council are acting as hosts, and it is a great pleasure to be able to hold the conference on the island of Gran Canaria, a territory with a very important hydraulic heritage.

The Spanish Conference on Dams debates and analyses all those issues related to regulation and use of water that are considered of special interest to Public Administrations and Organizations, Companies, Professionals, Universities and Research Centres. In addition, in this edition, the Conference acquires an international character by incorporating a special session with the collaboration of the National Large Dams Committees of China (CHINCOLD), Brazil (CBDB) and the United States (USSD).

In a context such as the current one of necessary adaptation to climate change and in full energy transition, aspects such as river regulation, protection against floods and the generation of renewable energy acquire, if possible, greater importance. Two centuries ago, hydropower was the first renewable energy in the industrial era, and today it is hydropower that already guarantees a safe integration of all the renewable energies that accompany it in the 21st century.

Aware that this invitation comes at particularly difficult times due to the health crisis we are experiencing, we are waiting for you next year with the best spirit of being able to enjoy your participation in technical debates of the highest level and interest, where we will meet again in a moment in which we are all called to give the best of ourselves.

President of SPANCOLD
