Welcome Address from SEMNI

The Spanish Association for Numerical Methods in Engineering (SEMNI) emerged in 1989 with the aim of bringing together researchers, professionals, companies and institutions interested in the development and practical applications of numerical methods. The main objectives of SEMNI are to promote, foster, organize and coordinate activities related to numerical methods and their applications in engineering.

SEMNI turns 25 years in 2014, and, for celebrating such an occasion, our association decided to apply for organizing a very special scientific event: the 11th World Conference on Computational Mechanics (WCCM XI), the 5th European Conference on Computational Mechanics (ECCM V) and the 6th European Conference on Computational Fluid Dynamics (ECFD VI), to be jointly held in Barcelona on 20th-25th July 2014.

We could not find a better way to summarize our willingness of service to the computational mechanics during these 25 years, than taking over the tremendous responsibility of organizing this congress.

With the enthusiastic help of the conference chairmen, the executive board of SEMNI and the conference committees, we expect succeeding in providing the worldwide community on computational mechanics a suitable scientific and social environment during the event, which translates into new scientific achievements and contributes to the progress of our research fields.
We wait for all of you in Barcelona in July 2014, to celebrate together this great event.

Xavier Oliver
President of the Spanish Association
