  • Bridge Inspection, Evaluation, and Management in the United States

    Senior Principal-Transportation, Stantec, USA

Good asset management is essential for cost-effectively maintaining the bridge infrastructure in a state of good repair to meet the current and future expectations of transportation users, which include safety, security, mobility, and reliability. Efficient bridge inspection and evaluation programs form a basis for asset management of bridge structures. Transportation Agencies in the United States have a systematic inspection and evaluation program, partly due to the National Bridge Inspection Standards established by the Federal Highway Administration, that evolved with time to not only improve structural safety but also to provide data for effective asset management. This presentation will provide status of these programs in the United States and discuss how emerging technologies are influencing their future direction.
