HOST CITY: MUNICH

Munich ("München") is the capital and largest city of the German state of Bavaria (third largest city, after Berlin and Hamburg).

Back to the 12th century a monastery ran by monks of the Benedictine order became the Old Town of Munich.

Nowadays Munich is a leading location for science and research, home to major universities (such as the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München and the Technische Universität München), and Max Planck institutes.

The city is ranked as one of the most (if not “the” most) livable city in the world. Munich and closer suburbs have a comprehensive and punctual public transportation system that includes the Munich U-Bahn (underground railway), the Munich S-Bahn (suburban trains), trams and buses.
