Pavia

IGA 2017 will take place in Pavia, Italy, at the University of Pavia.

The main building of the University of Pavia  (Corso Strada Nuova, 65 – 27100 Pavia) is located in a pedestrian area and can be reached by taxi or Bus Line 3 from the railway station

Pavia, called Ticinum in antiquity, is situated in south-western Lombardy, 35 km south of Milan on the lower Ticino river near its confluence with the Po, and is the capital of a fertile province essentially devoted to agriculture (wine, rice, cereals, dairy products). Some industries located in the suburbs do not disturb the peaceful atmosphere which comes from the preservation of the city's past and the climate of study and meditation associated with its ancient University.

How to get to Pavia

Pavia is located in Northern Italy, Lombardy, about 35 kilometers south of Milan

By Car

Pavia is on the A7 Milano-Genova highway, 30 kilometers south of Milano Ring Road (Tangenziale). The exit for Pavia is Bereguardo/Pavia Nord. If driving through Brennero-Verona or Tarvisio/Trieste-Venezia, another option is to leave the A4 highway at Brescia, take the A21 highway (direction Torino) at leave the highway at Broni/Stradella. The most updated navigators might also suggest to use the new highways A35+A58 from Brescia to Melegnano. Both these options require driving through countryside and small villages to get to Pavia.

Connection with Airports

There is no airport in Pavia, but you can fly to any of the Milan area airports

Milano Malpensa Airport (MXP), 90 km from Pavia (official website here

Milano Linate Airport (LIN), 50 km from Pavia (official website here)

Bergamo Orio al Serio (BGY), 100 km from Pavia (official website here)

Then you can reach Pavia by public transportation (see below) or by taxi. Taxi rides can be very expensive; you can save money by booking in advance your ride from the airports, using e.g. these companies. Mention that you will attend a conference connected with the University of Pavia during the booking procedure.
