Objectives

A major challenge in Computational Mechanics is to ensure that the end results of analyses and simulations satisfy predefined quality requirements. The assessment of both the quality of the model (validation) and the quality of the numerical scheme (verification) are important to guarantee the level of accuracy of the final solution. Due to the ever increasing complexity of models used in engineering practice, requiring increasingly time-consuming analysis, it is crucial that the computational cost of producing results is optimimized with respect to the required accuracy. This calls for truly adaptive procedures in choosing the mathematical model as well as the discretization inherent in the computational method.

The objective of the ADMOS 2007 conference on Adaptive Modeling and Simulation is to present and discuss the current state-of-the-art developments in the field. Adaptivity is ever more integrated in the industrial practice of Computational Mechanics. Consequently, ADMOS is encouraging and devoting special interest to contributions on industrial applications of adaptive strategies.

Previous meetings in the ADMOS series were held in Göteborg in 2003 and in Barcelona in 2005. Following the two successful conferences, clearly demonstrating the wide-spread interest in this theme, the third edition of ADMOS will take place at Chalmers University of Technology, in Göteborg (Sweden).
